Energy-efficient windows and doors will save you even more money on energy costs over the long term. You can save hundreds of dollars on heating and cooling costs, live more comfortably, do your part to conserve energy and protect the environment.

Regency makes it easy to buy qualifying Akron and Cleveland vinyl windows and claim the tax credit:
  • Meet with a Regency window expert to discuss your window and entry door needs.
  • Purchase qualifying Regency Windows and Doors and have them installed between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 in your principal residence.*
  • Save your contract information and window stickers/manufacturer's certification for your 2009 or 2010 tax records.
  • You will need to file IRS Form 5695 for the 2009 and/or 2010 tax year to claim the credit.**

  1. What windows and doors are eligible for the credit?
Windows and doors need to be ENERGY STAR qualified and have a U-factor of 0.30 or lower AND a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or lower. Windows and doors must meet both criteria to qualify. Regency offers windows and doors that are eligible for the credit.

  2. What is a window U-value?
Windows and doors are rated by an independent testing organization, the National Fenestration Rating Counsel (NFRC). The U-value rating measures the entire window or door's insulating ability to insulate. In other words, the U-value measures how well the window or door prevents heat from escaping. The lower the number, the better it is at insulating. Your Regency Windows & Doors will carry a sticker with the NFRC rating that confirms they meet the standard required.

  3. What is the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)?
The National Fenestration Rating Counsel (NFRC) also rates the SHGC. The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) measures how well a window or door blocks heat from sunlight. Like the U-value, the SHGC is expressed as a value for the whole window or door. This is important because SHGC ratings express the ability of a window to absorb heat from the sun and transmit it through an entire window into a room. Therefore the entire window and door, as well as the glass, can affect the SHGC rating. Your Regency Windows & Doors will carry a sticker with the NFRC rating that confirms they meet the standard required.

  4. Does Regency have windows that qualify for the new tax credit?
Yes, we have a variety of double-paned and triple paned windows and patio doors that meet or beat the 0.30 U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) requirements. We also have a wide variety of entry doors that qualify. Your window and door expert will discuss all of your options with you.

  5. How much is the tax credit?
The tax credit is 30% of your window purchase (not including labor or materials for installation), up to $1,500. Other home energy improvements may also be eligible for the tax credit. The maximum credit available is $1,500. Please consult your tax professional to determine if you are able to claim all or part of this tax credit.

  6. How is this tax credit different from the $200 Tax Credit in 2006 and 2007?
The 2006-2007 tax credit allowed a homeowner to get 10% of the window purchase (not including labor and materials for installation), up to a cap of $200. The new tax credit now allows you to get 30% of the window purchase (not including labor and materials for installation), up to a cap of $1,500.

  7. Can I take a credit in both 2009 and 2010?
The tax credit is limited to 30%, up to a lifetime maximum of $1,500 for eligible products. Once you meet the $1,500 maximum, you can no longer claim the credit. If you have products installed in 2009 and 2010, and you have met the criteria and not exceeded your limit, you can take credits in both years. As always, talk with a tax professional about your own personal situation to be sure you meet the criteria and can claim this tax credit.

  8. Where can I go to get more information on the tax credits?
You can find more information about the energy tax credits and product requirements at http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=products.pr_tax_credits. You may also read more information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 at www.recovery.gov. The IRS will update information at www.irs.gov.

  9. If I had windows installed in 2006 and 2007, am I still eligible for the new tax credit?
If you have eligible products installed in 2009 and/or 2010, you may be able to claim an additional $1,300 above and beyond the $200 you have already claimed, since the limit has been raised from $200 to $1,500. As always, talk with a tax professional about your own personal situation to be sure you meet the criteria and can claim this tax credit.

  10. Is the $200 tax credit that was passed October 3, 2008 in the Economic Stimulus Relief Bill for 2009 still available?
At this time, this is not clear based on available information. We expect that more information will be released in the next few months from the IRS. Accountants and tax advisors should provide guidance on this topic.
